Corker Congratulates Pat Summitt on Legendary Career and Presidential Medal of Freedom

Apr 19, 2012

Bob Corker today congratulated Pat Summitt on her legendary career as head coach of the University of Tennessee Lady Vols basketball program and on being named a recipient of the Presidential Medal of Freedom, the nation’s highest civilian honor.

“There is perhaps no one in America who has made a more indelible mark on their profession than Pat Summitt. I congratulate her on a legendary career and the tremendous honor of being named a recipient of the Presidential Medal of Freedom. This award will be a fitting tribute to her 38 years as head coach of the Lady Vols in which she has set an historic record of achievement that is only surpassed by her positive impact on the lives of the women she’s coached and those she’s inspired throughout the country,” Corker said. “I know I speak for every Tennessean in saying we will miss seeing Coach Summitt on the sidelines, but we know she will continue to make many contributions to the University of Tennessee, the Knoxville community and the game of basketball for years to come.”
